The American Luxembourg Society

[FR] Fondé le 4 juillet 1882 à l'Hôtel du Grand-Chef à Mondorf-les-Bains par un petit groupe d'émigrés luxembourgeois retournés au pays d'origine, (émigration qui avait commencée au 17e siècle, et entre 1840 et 1890, d'une population de 200.000, 72.000 émigrèrent), l'American Club se voulait une association de rencontres dans le but de célébrer les fêtes américaines. Avec le dépôt des premiers statuts en 1894, le Club entendait aussi faire jouer la solidarité entre les membres.

Après la Première Guerre Mondiale, de nombreuses relations entre la population et d'anciens soldats venus à Luxembourg comme libérateurs vinrent donner de nouvelles impulsions au Club. En 1930 et 1953 le club se donna des statuts adaptés aux nouvelles orientations.

L'AMERICAN CLUB se mua dans un premier temps en Luxembourg American Society et puis en 1953 en American Luxembourg Society.

Au fil des années elle continua à commémorer "l'Independence Day" et le "Thanksgiving Day", tout en soulignant son but d'approfondir les relations amicales avec les Etats-Unis, et d'offrir aux membres et au grand public une palette des plus variées de manifestations.

Depuis la Deuxieme Guerre Mondiale, le nombre des membres est passé de 57 en 1946 à quelques 400 aujourd'hui.

L'American Luxembourg Society" est organisé conformément à la loi du 21 avril 1928 sur les associations sans but lucratif.
Son objet est "de cultiver les relations entre luxembourgeois et américains et de reserrer les liens d'amitié entre le Grand-Duché de Luxembourg et les Etats-Unis d'Amérique".

Peuvent être membres des personnes physiques ou morales quelle que soit leur nationalité ou lieu de résidence, sur demande adressée au comité.

L'assemblée générale se compose de l'ensemble des membres; elle se réunit chaque année avant le 31 mars et à la demande du comité ou d'un cinquième des membres.

L'assemblée générale nomme et révoque les présidents et membres du comité, examine les comptes, fixe les cotisations et prend toutes décisions soumises au vote.

Un comité de 10 à 20 membres gère l'Association.

Deux commissaires-vérificateurs élus par l'assemblée générale veillent à la stricte exécution des statuts et exercent un droit illimité de contrôle sur la gestion de l'Association.

[EN] Founded on July 4, 1882 at the Hotel du Grand-Chef in Mondorf-les-Bains, by a small group of immigrants to the United States, returned to their country of origin, (the immigration started in the 17th century and between 1840 and 1890, 72,000 out of a population of 200,000 emigrated), the American Club's objectives were to offer a venue for meetings and to celebrate American holidays.

After World War First, many relations between the Luxembourg population and veteran soldiers who were part of the contingent freeing Luxembourg, gave a new boast to the Club. In 1900 and 1953, the Club issued by laws taking into consideration its new orientation.

The American Club existed first as Luxembourg American Society and then in 1953 became the American Luxembourg Society.

Over time, the Society continued to celebrate the Independence and Thanksgiving Day. It also continues to nurture the friendly relations with the United States and to offer to its members and the public a wide range of activities.

Since World War Second, the number of members has increased from 57 in 1946 to over 400 today.

The "American Luxembourg Society" is organized in compliance with the Non Profit Associations' Act of April 21st, 1928.

His main aim is "to cultivate the relations between Luxembourg and American people, and to tighten the friendship between the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg and the United States of America".

Membership is open to any physical or moral person, without any condition as to nationality or residence, upon request addressed to the committee.

The Annual General Assembly is composed of all of the members of the Association and takes place every year prior to March 31st and upon request of either the committee or a fifth of the members.

The Annual General Assembly elects and revokes the president and the committee members, examins the accounts, fixes the membership fee and takes all the decisions submitted to the vote of the assembly.

A committee of 10 to 20 members leads the Association.

Two auditors, elected by the General Assembly, supervise the strict observation of the Statutes and have an unlimited right of control over the running of the Association.
